WHY Leona Nacida?

LEONA NACIDA was born from the tapestry of my maternal lineage and the spiral of my lived experiences. The first thread begins with my grandmother and her journey from a small village in Jalisco, Mexico to the Mission District in San Francisco.
Single and pregnant with my mother, my grandmother came to the United States in search of resources. Her whole world opened up when a woman, her neighbor, saw a spark in her and offered to loan her the money for the down payment to buy her first home.
This act of kindness, generosity and kinship was the seed that enabled my grandmother to grow a true legacy.
My grandmother planted this seed in me: the seed of the power of women supporting each other to grow their legacy.
She instilled in me a desire to honor her by offering seeds of opportunity to women who share the same spark and need that my grandmother did when she received that beautiful offering of trust and generosity.
That seed lies at the heart of what inspired Leona Nacida: my belief that women whose bodies and spirits are nourished, resourced and connected to each other hold the power to seed and grow a world rooted in our collective unity.
That belief is the heartbeat that inspires me and the intention that I hold as I bring this vision, this pride of Leonas, into the world.
Leonas know in their bones that to thrive they must work together. They hunt, mother and provide for each other from a spirit of kinship and reciprocity. They act as one and tend to the whole from a heart of fierce compassion and nurturing.
In March of 2023, my family and I moved to the highlands of Laikipia, Kenya. In the spirit of reciprocity and out of respect for our presence on this land, 5% of all proceeds from LEONA NACIDA will go towards nourishing the bodies and spirits of women in my local community. We will do so through midwifery services, health education and a microloan program to support these women to build their own legacy. In the future products from that microloan program will be available to purchase through LEONA NACIDA.
